Feature.
|
Deconstruction.
|
Font
|
The mast head is in a bold block style font, to make it stand out from
the rest of the text and images, it has a black box surrounding with grey
font, this makes it contrast a lot from the background, which makes it very
effective. Next there are many different sizes of the same style font making,
more important sections in the publishers eyes stand out. (Preferred reading),
underneath each section sell-line, there is relevant text to the point, in
small unchanged font, to show that this information is not as important as
the actual sell-line.
|
Text
|
There is a main mast head ‘RESPECT.’ Underneath each section sell-line,
there is relevant text on the subject or a hint at what the subject is about;
this is used to add the suspense of you wanting to know about more, on what
is happening.
|
Colour
|
The colours used are bright with contrasting coloured text. The background
a generic white (cost effective colour) which help to add further effect to
the main image and text on the page. The artist (Rick Ross) is stood in all
black clothing with blue jeans; this was done to add further contrast to the
background white. (Grey, black and white are the only three colours).
|
Body
language/staging
|
The artist has been framed so that he is looking confidently upwards,
creating this shape that takes up most of the page, only leaving room for
sell-lines to slot in.
|
Framing
|
The image is of a long shot, as it incorporates the artist’s entire
body. This frame allows the reader to view the entire person as he is,
without cutting off any detail; this is good because it makes other areas
look more detailed, to a standard.
|
Lighting
|
The lighting is a surround effect, removing any form of shadow to add
even more emphasis on the main image, and keeping the reader’s attention on
the points that have been made to stand out in bold, to other areas, this is
because of the contrast against the white background.
|
Composition
(overall
design/layout)
|
The layout of the front cover is very smooth; there is a good flow,
point to point, even though there is no similarity, except the actual font as
a whole, which makes this piece have a feel of different layers.

Deconstruction of magazine front cover

You understand the functions of the conventions of front covers very well - you also appear to have a good understanding of both connotations and denotationbs. However you need to ensure that all of these deconstructions relate back to your own product. You need to say when studying these products - what you like that you may use in your own magazine and what you dislike that you would know not to use.
