Deconstruction of a contents page

Feature.
Deconstruction.
Font
The font is a regular styled font that is used across the entire page, this is good because it is very easy to read, however it is nothing special that could make the magazine stand out from others for being different. The other style font is curved edge block font that makes it stand out from the other text as an important piece. The final font is the mast head from the front cover but down scaled, to be placed in the top right section of the page.
Text
There is a lot of text on the contents page; this is because it outlines the sections of the articles from each other, giving relevant information on each main section. The amount of text is useful as it provides the reader with a strong amount of information.
Colour
The colour of the background is white which brings out the main image of the artist, as the colours on the main image, are bright and blend in with the white background, they contrast enough to keep the readers focus on the image before moving to the text. The main colour of the text is black throughout the page, but the most noticeable, coloured text is red because it contrasts against all other colours. This page is a good example of thinking economically, and cost efficiently as white the preset colour of paper, which saves money by not having to print to new colours.
Body language/staging
The body language of the artist is very confident, openly holding alcohol and presenting gang signs with his hands.
Framing
The framing of the image is a mid shot only capturing his upper body, mainly to get similar colours only to the background from his top then to make his face stand out over the rest of the colours on the page.
Lighting
The lighting on the main image, is focused only on the artist face, this is to further draw attention to the artist face, as it is the darkest part of the page.
Composition (overall design/layout)
The composition of the page is very well done, as it builds around the main image, with different types of text, some more important than others, which is shown by the different fonts, colours and italics.

  1. You understand the functions of the conventions of contents pages very well - you also appear to have a good understanding of both connotations and denotationbs. However you need to ensure that all of these deconstructions say when studying these products - what you relate back to your own product. You need to like that you may use in your own magazine and what you dislike that you have decided against using.
