Deconstruction of magazine double page spread

Feature.
Deconstruction.
Font
The font style, for the heading is very bold, opening with ‘Fiasco @ 9:30’ on the left hand page, with an image of Lupe Fiasco as the model, the font stands out from the background and other texts as a heading, but could be considered the same as the heading on the right hand page. The bulk of the text on the page uses a curved subtle font that is easy to read, but looks different from standard newspaper styled font, this helps to individualise the magazine from other businesses.
Text
There is a reasonable amount of text on the page in the form of two large columns; this is good because all the text is in one area making it easy to read through the entire piece, without losing focus to look at images. The more important sections of the text have been highlighted in gold, helping the text become easier to depict.
Colour
The background colour is black; however this was not done to add a dark theme towards the artist, but was done to bring out the gold, spread around the page. The most important colour present on the page is the gold, as the artist is wearing a gold lined jacket, with a golden watch. To further this, the important sections of text such as quotes, highlights and even the heading is in gold, showings its importance.
Body language/staging
The body language is a subtle confidence, showing as a centre-piece the golden watch, staring away from the camera, to look up at something, showing he still has aspirations, or goals that he wants to reach.
Framing
The framing is of a mid shot of Lupe Fiasco wearing all black, with a gold watch, to draw you attention towards it, rather than looking at the text on the next page, this instantly tells the reader he has reach wealth and fame, by being present in the magazine and showing off his expensive jewelry.
Lighting
The lighting of the shot, is an looking down on him, from the top left of the page, slightly covering the right side of the image and his body into darkness, but not extreme darkness, but enough to suggest something about the character/model.
Composition (overall design/layout)
The overall design of the pages is good, this is because it keeps the, images separate  from the text, making sure that the reader looks at the representations of the image and the wealth of the model, before moving on and then reading the article, this helps to create a image/ personality for the artist without reading a single word.

  1. You understand the functions of the conventions of double page spreads very well - you also appear to have a good understanding of both connotations and denotations. However you need to ensure that all of these deconstructions relate back to your own product. You need to say when studying these products - what you like that you may use in your own magazine and what you dislike that you have decided against using.
